Strmol Castle

Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia

Strmol Castle is located at the foot of Dvorjanski hrib “Mansion Hill” near Cerklje na Gorenjskem.

Its roots go back to the 13th century, when it was home to the Strmol Knights, after whom the castle was originally named. Despite changing hands several times, it has retained its original Slovene name.

Strmol Castle is the oldest castle in the region with a large number of original furnishings and historic interiors preserved. It was declared a cultural monument of national importance in 2004 and underwent a full restoration between 2010 and 2012 to preserve its cultural heritage.

Situated in a peaceful countryside setting, the castle is away from the town center and offers a tranquil retreat. It is only a 10-minute drive from the nearest airport, making it easily accessible for both local and international visitors.

Today, the castle offers 11 rooms of different types for guests, and it can also be rented for exclusive use. Visitors can enjoy smaller dining areas and a room suitable for small business meetings. The location offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys, making it ideal for both relaxation and work.

The castle retains its historic charm with a medieval keep, Renaissance and Baroque renovations, and a landscaped park with paths, a lake, and Baroque sculptures. It currently serves as an official protocol venue and guesthouse for the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
