Torre Melina Gran Meliá

The former Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I, presently known as Torre Melina and part of the prestigious Meliá Hotels International (MHI) portfolio, boasts a distinguished history that traces back to 1992.
It was inaugurated to coincide with the global spotlight of the Barcelona Olympic Games, under the name Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I. The architectural vision behind the edifice was entrusted to Carles Ferrater, of the esteemed firm OAB – Office of Architecture in Barcelona.
Upon its acquisition by Meliá Hotels International, the property was imbued with a renewed identity that simultaneously paid homage to its origins. The current name, Torre Melina, derives from a medieval estate documented as early as the 12th century, historically located on the same grounds. In conjunction with this rebranding, an ambitious and comprehensive renovation was undertaken. This transformation encompassed a full redesign of the lobby, a strategic redistribution of the guest rooms, and the conversion of the former penthouse of a Saudi prince into an exclusive rooftop venue, offering panoramic views over the city and conceived specifically for private events. The new lobby, situated on the ground floor, was opened up to the surrounding gardens, thereby enhancing natural light and spatial fluidity. Within this revitalized area lie the hotel's principal culinary venues: L’Amaranta, Erre&Urrechu—the hotel’s signature restaurant, helmed by celebrated chef Íñigo Urrechu and devoted to the refined art of grilling—as well as the breakfast salon and Pool Bar Terrasse, adjacent to the outdoor swimming pool.
As a result of the renovation, the hotel’s room inventory was reduced from 432 to 391 units, including 61 suites. Torre Melina offers 18 distinct room categories, many of which are interconnectable—an ideal arrangement for families. Each room has been reimagined with a design language that blends contemporary sophistication with timeless elegance. Select categories, such as the Master Suite and the One Bedroom Long Stay Suite, are equipped with a fully appointed kitchenette, complete with tableware and utensils. The Royal Penthouse Suite Red Level, the property’s most exclusive accommodation, spans 300 square meters and comprises two bedrooms, a grand living room, full kitchen, and a private terrace with jacuzzi.
The gardens, designed in the romantic style by Fontserè, constitute a fundamental element of the hotel's identity. Home to over 450 species of tropical and Mediterranean flora, as well as a tranquil pond, the gardens are meticulously maintained year-round to preserve their exceptional beauty. Nestled within this lush landscape is Beso Pedralbes, a beach club concept offering a serene urban escape and a gastronomic experience of the highest calibre. Mediterranean in spirit, both casual and exclusive, and harmoniously integrated into its natural setting, it invites guests to immerse themselves in a singular and evocative ambiance. The facilities are thoughtfully divided into three distinct zones: a pool area, which includes its own private beach, entirely refurbished and adorned with Balinese beds and sun loungers; the restaurant, in the unmistakable Beso style; and a versatile event space, ideal for both private celebrations and corporate functions.
