Nestled in protected Karelia in Northern Russia, among hundreds of lakes and endless northern forests, stands the boutique hotel “Zaonezhie”. The hotel received top honours at the LIV Hospitality Design Awards (Switzerland), winning in both the Wellness and Boutique Hotel categories. It also received Silver in the Commercial Architecture category at the International Design Awards (USA).

Further accolades include a win in the “Wood in Exterior” category at the ARCHIWOOD Awards and in the “Hotels” category at the ADD Awards. In addition, the hotel was recognised at the Rethinking The Future Awards (USA), receiving top honours in the Global Design & Architecture | Hospitality (Built) category. Façades of northern timber and hand-crafted wooden shingles echo the traditions of ancient Russian North carpentry, while every window faces the water, allowing the endless lake horizon to become part of the interior.

Thirteen panoramic rooms and four guest villas with wood-burning fireplaces create an atmosphere of privacy and calm, while the “Runa” restaurant offers author-driven cuisine based on local ingredients — from freshly caught fish to fowl and northern berries. The hotel is designed for unhurried living: a private pier, a panoramic hall, eco-trails, and secluded spots for meditation in the forest.

Zaonezhie is a land of rare shungite, pristine waters, and untouched forests, where one might encounter a white-tailed eagle or witness the Northern Lights.
